Pete Johnson
Pete Johnson is a former teacher with over 20 years of mountain biking experience and a passion for developing young riders. He has organised and supported numerous local and national mountain bike races for both adults and children, helping to grow junior participation in the sport.
Pete is a long-serving leader with both the PCC Kids Club and the Erskine Stewart’s Melville School Mountain Bike Club, where he is known for his calm, encouraging approach and strong focus on rider confidence and safety.
He is a Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Association (SMBLA) qualified Mountain Bike Leader (MBL) and a British Cycling Level 2 Coach, with mountain bike and night riding bolt-on awards. Pete is PVG checked, trained in Child Welfare and Protection in a sporting environment, and holds an Advanced Outdoor First Aid qualification.
Iain Grant
Iain Grant is a true local cycling legend in the Tweed Valley, with a long-standing reputation for developing young riders and inspiring a lifelong love of cycling. A founding member of PCC Kids Club, Iain has spent over 20 years coaching and mentoring riders at both local and national level, including many of the region’s most talented young cyclists.
Renowned for his ability to make cycling fun, inclusive, and rewarding, Iain combines this with a unique talent for bringing out the very best in rider performance. His sessions are engaging, confidence-building, and carefully tailored to suit each rider’s needs and goals.
Iain is a Scottish Mountain Bike Leader Association (SMBLA) qualified Mountain Bike Leader (MBL) and a British Cycling Level 3 Coach, holding mountain bike and night riding bolt-on awards. He is PVG checked, trained in Child Welfare and Protection in a sporting environment, and holds an Outdoor First Aid qualification.
Calum Johnson
Calum Johnson is a former competitive mountain bike racer with experience in cross-country and enduro events at local, national, and international level. His racing background gives him a strong understanding of bike handling, line choice, and how to adapt riding to different terrain and conditions.
For the past five years, Calum has worked as a mountain bike instructor with the ESMS Carbisdale Project, where he is well known for his calm, caring, and supportive approach with children. He places a strong emphasis on safety, confidence, and enjoyment, helping young riders feel comfortable and capable on their bikes.
Calum is a MIAS Mountain Bike Leader Level Two (MBL2), is PVG checked, trained in Child Welfare and Protection in a sporting environment, and holds an Outdoor First Aid qualification.
